Crossed-rod sharpeners

During production, the cutting edge gradually deforms under mechanical stress. Sharpening makes it possible to realign the edge and maintain a functional cut without unnecessary material removal.

X-Fil crossed-rod sharpeners

X-Fil sharpeners are designed for simple and regular use in professional environments. They can be used on a table with a stand or fixed directly to the workstation. The crossed-rod system guides the blade during sharpening, reducing variations caused by differences in operator technique.

Design and materials

• Frame: stainless steel compliant with EN 10088-1 / 1.4307

Why maintain the edge regularly

It is preferable not to wait until cutting performance is lost. Implementing a sharpening frequency adapted to the product being processed helps maintain consistent cutting performance and extend knife service life.

Operating principles (reminder)

• Tool designed for regular and standardized use in production.
• Motion must be visually controlled to avoid damage and preserve the edge.
• Do not strike the edge against the rods.

Recommendations — X-Fil X1

• Mainly use the upper area of the sharpener.
• Keep the blade perpendicular to the rods.
• During use: 1 to 2 regular passes as needed.
• Locally damaged edge: work only on the affected area with visual control.

Never do — X-Fil X1

• Do not systematically use the lower area.
• Do not use the lower area on a freshly sharpened knife.
• Do not use the sharpener without watching the motion (risk of catching the frame and creating a notch).

Recommendations — X-Fil X2 and X21

• Present the blade straight, facing the rods.
• Sharpen from the base of the handle to the tip in one continuous motion.
• Knife in use: 1 to 3 passes at mid-rod height, final pass without rod movement.
• Worn edge: 1 pass at the bottom of the rods without pressure, then 3 passes at mid-height.

Never do — X-Fil X2 / X21

• Do not strike the rods.
• Do not automatically go to the bottom of the rods at each sharpening.

Cutting performance and edge retention (internal references)

X-Fil X1, X2 and X21 sharpeners restore cutting performance in approximately 95% of cases. By comparison, an excellent operator using a honing steel under production constraints generally achieves between 50% and 70%.

Another advantage of X-Fil sharpeners is edge retention, reported as 3 to 6 times higher than with other sharpening tools. These results can be supported by measurement data; the validation tool used is the Mentor.
